Strategic advisory teams

Our strategic advisory teams (SATs) advise us on research and training strategy in different areas of our remit, paying particular attention to multidisciplinary opportunities. They are also involved in cross-council programmes and mission programmes.

The role of the strategic advisory teams includes:

  • alerting the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to new and emerging research and training opportunities, including international opportunities
  • advising on the balance between research and training activities
  • advising on areas or issues that need further exploration or investigation
  • developing input on specific topics as requested by EPSRC’s executive chair.

We hold conferences and regular meetings in different programme areas to bring strategic advisory teams from all areas together. We appoint members for one year, but aim to have some continuity in teams from one year to the next.

Terms of reference

Strategic advisory teams (SATs) exist to provide EPSRC theme leaders with the strategic advice they need to develop, implement and modify plans
