Can you help find environmental solutions to COVID-19?

A ground-breaking events series will take place later this month to find environmental solutions to COVID-19 and NERC is seeking participants with a range of expertise.

Scientists, researchers, innovators, policymakers, businesspeople and NGOs from across all relevant fields are invited to join the COVID-19 Environmental Solutions Ideas Series and find strategies to support the UK’s economic and social recovery from the pandemic.

Focusing on key themes for discussion, the Series aims to unearth innovative environmental solutions ideas that will contribute to the response and recovery, and can be taken forward through a breadth of existing and future UKRI funding routes.

The themes being investigated are:

  • Current Frontiers: Capturing and reflecting upon relevant research and innovation since the outbreak first emerged
  • Managing pathogens in the environment: Environmental solutions to reduce the potential for emergence and spread of pathogens
  • Greening the build back: Putting sustainability at the core of rebuilding and reshaping a Net Zero economy
  • Healthy places, healthy people: Environmental solutions to increase the health of places to support the mental and physical health of people

Duncan Wingham, Executive Chair of the Natural Environment Research Council, said:

“Environmental science has a huge contribution to make to support our recovery from Covid-19, and this event series will bring together a multi-disciplinary community to find creative solutions to the challenges we face. This is an exciting project and I hope people with a range of expertise will take part.”

The Series, hosted entirely online, will begin on Monday, 15 June and continue until mid-July. Please sign up by midday on Friday 12 June.
