Celebrating STEM Inspiration
The outstanding efforts of individuals and organisations across the UK who are inspiring young people to study STEM subjects has been celebrated at the STEM Inspiration Awards.
Awarded by STEM Learning and sponsored by UK Research and Innovation, awards are presented in eight categories that recognise everything from STEM Ambassadors and employers to outstanding STEM technicians and clubs.
Yvonne Baker, Chief Executive of STEM Learning said: “I am delighted to celebrate some truly amazing people, all of whom work tirelessly to broaden the horizons of young people in the UK. In this year’s winners we have seen fantastic examples of schools, colleges and STEM employers working together.
“This collaboration is vital as it helps inspire the next generation of STEM professionals, highlighting the skills needed by students and the opportunities available to them in tomorrow’s STEM careers.”
UKRI’s Science and Technology Facilities Council is providing an inspirational trip to CERN for the adult winners where they will have the opportunity to see cutting edge science in action, as well as meet top engineers, technicians and physicists from across the facility.
Vivienne Parry, UKRI Board member, said: “A key part of UKRI’s mission is to inspire the next generation. In 15 years’ time I hope some of the UK’s most promising and exciting scientists and engineers will say they owe their career to a STEM Ambassador.”
The sponsorship of the STEM Inspiration Awards is part of UKRI and STFC’s ongoing partnership with STEM Learning to deliver the STEM Ambassador programme and encourage public engagement with STEM.
