UKRI signs international development safeguarding statement
UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is one of five UK funders of international development research to have signed a statement of commitment to prevent and tackle harm and abuse in research for international development.
As members of the Strategic Coherence for official development assistance-funded Research (SCOR) Board, UKRI has joined with the Department for International Development (DfID), the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, Department for Health & Social Care and the Wellcome Trust to condemn all incidents of harm and abuse, including bullying, sexual and other forms of harassment.
As major funders of international development research, the SCOR Board members pledge to join efforts to raise standards of behaviour across the sector, working in partnership with the development research community.
The statement of intent was published on the day of the international Safeguarding Summit hosted by DfID (18 October 2018), where the Secretary of State for International Development Penny Mordaunt announced her commitment to drive up safeguarding standards across the international aid sector.
