Engage the public with impacts of digital economy research 2021

Apply for funding to support a public engagement activity. Your activity must tell the story of the impact of a digital economy research project.

You can be from any sector or career stage, as long as the research involved was funded by our Digital Economy theme grants.

This funding comes from the Telling Tales of Engagement awards.

Build a network to promote academic engagement with catapults

Apply for funding to build a network that will:

  • encourage engagement between academia and the catapult centres
  • deliver the Researchers in Residence awards.

You must:

  • be a UK resident
  • be based at an eligible research organisation
  • have experience of running large centres or networks.

Access to high performance computing

Apply for access to high performance computing (HPC) services to support any research in EPSRC’s remit.

The services are tier 1 (ARCHER2) and tier 2.

You must live in the UK and be from one of these UK organisations:

  • higher education institution
  • research council institute
  • UKRI-independent research organisation
  • NHS body with research capacity.

Pre-announcement: High-risk speculative research ideas in engineering and ICT

Apply for funding for new research ideas that are speculative, high risk, with potential for a high reward.

Your idea for a project must be within the remit of EPSRC’s:

  • engineering theme
  • information and communication technologies (ICT) theme.

You must be:

  • a UK resident
  • based at an eligible research organisation.

Business and academia prosperity partnership: fifth round

Apply for funding to support an established research partnership between business and academic institutions.

Prosperity partnership programmes must:

  • be led by a business
  • address EPSRC’s delivery plan priorities, particularly for delivering economic and social prosperity.

Improve the sustainability of urban systems and infrastructure

Apply for funding to develop research networks that will focus on improving the sustainability of urban systems and infrastructure.

You must be:

  • a UK resident
  • based at an eligible research organisation.

You can apply for one of three networks on:

  • green infrastructure development
  • low carbon connected digital infrastructure
  • sustainable urban systems.

Build a network to research sustainable agri-food for net zero

Apply for funding to develop a research network that will focus on improving the sustainability of the agri-food system.

You must be:

  • based at an eligible UK-based organisation
  • working in a science discipline.

Co-investigators can be from any discipline.

Your network is expected to:

  • focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions
  • build interdisciplinary partnerships
  • involve stakeholders
  • develop future research plans.

Digital security by design: software ecosystem development

UK registered organisations can apply for a share of up to £8 million for projects to work on the development of the digital security by design (DSbD) software ecosystem.

Support the development of research software engineering

Apply for funding for activities to support the development of research software engineering in the UK.

You must be either:

  • a researcher or research software engineer at an eligible research organisation
  • an employee of an eligible public sector research establishment.

You can be from any area of the UK research community. You do not need to be working within EPSRC’s remit.

Developing quantum technologies for fundamental physics

Apply for funding to apply, or adapt, quantum technologies to fundamental physics questions.

You and your institution should be eligible for UKRI funding.
