Global effort on COVID-19 health research

Applied Global Health Research Board grants: Oct 2020

Funding is available for research that benefits the health of vulnerable people in low and middle income countries (LMIC). There is no limit to the amount you can request.

You can apply if you are a LMIC principal investigator or UK-based and working in partnership with LMIC investigators.

Transition Support Award for current MRC intermediate fellows: Oct 2020

Open to MRC Career Development Awards or Clinician Scientist Fellowships in the final 12-18 months of their fellowship.

Provides short-term support of up to two years, while outputs are achieved, enabling them to meet their full potential or be in a position to secure their next position.

Preparing for future clean air challenges: interdisciplinary research and innovation consortia

We invite proposals for interdisciplinary consortia under the second wave of the Strategic Priorities Fund Clean Air Programme. The aim is to:

  • equip the UK to tackle new and emerging air quality challenges
  • investigate changing emissions and exposure patterns and health impacts on high-risk groups.

Neuroimmunology Data Generation Award for Early Career Researchers: Oct 2020

For early career researchers in a multidisciplinary team with at least one researcher with neuroscience or mental health expertise and one with immunology expertise.

Funding for up to 24 months. This funding opportunity is aimed at generating data to provide a strong evidence base and clear rationale for larger programmes of research.

MRC Clinical academic research partnership: Oct 2020

You can apply if you are a research-qualified healthcare professional at consultant level or equivalent, not currently undertaking any substantial research activity, and looking to develop your research interests through collaborative high-quality research partnerships.

Better methods, better research: Nov 2020

Researchers can apply for funding to improve the methods being used in wider biomedical and health research. The programme is jointly funded by MRC and the National Institute for Health Research, and the programme welcomes research that falls within the remit of either funder.

We will normally award up to £500,000 and support 80% of the full economic costs of your proposal.

Innovation Scholars: Data Science Training in Health and Bioscience

Innovative training programmes to upskill health and bioscience researchers in data management and analysis.

Providing flexible training for two scenarios:

  • upskilling from different starting levels and career stages
  • enabling researchers to develop skills in new emerging areas of importance.
