Global effort on COVID-19 health research

Apply for funding to improve our understanding of the pandemic in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) and find ways to reduce its health impacts. This funding opportunity is open to researchers based in LMICs, or UK researchers working in partnership with LMIC investigators.

Deliver safer and better care for people in Scotland with diabetes, phase 1

Organisations can apply for a share of £300,000 including VAT, to address foot problems, hospital care after admission and bone care for diabetes patients in Scotland.

Innovate UK can provide additional COVID-19 innovation continuity loans for the continuation of planned or existing innovation activity.

Decarbonising Heating and Cooling 2

This funding opportunity is to fund proposals to support the goal of the decarbonisation of heating and cooling.  Proposals must be at least 50% within the remit of EPSRC or at least 50% within the remit of NERC.

Digital Economy: Sustainable Digital Society

We are investing up to £5 million (at 80% full economic cost) of EPSRC funding to support around six sociotechnical, interdisciplinary, co-created, novel research projects.

The projects should explore user-focused, transformational digital technologies and services to achieve a sustainable digital society.

The Digital Economy Theme welcomes multidisciplinary research that spans the whole of the remit of UK Research and Innovation. The research must be at least 50% within EPSRC’s remit to qualify for funding.

Industrial CASE Studentships

We invite PhD students to work with non-academic partners on projects that fall within the STFC core science programme of astronomy, particle physics, nuclear physics and accelerator science. Projects must aim to apply technologies or techniques developed within the programme into other areas.

New Generation Thinkers: Oct 2020

This prestigious scheme allows 60 early career researchers to develop programmes for the BBC. If selected, you’ll workshop ideas with BBC producers, get media and public engagement training, and a platform for informing and influencing public opinion, policy and practice.

Centres Competition 2020

Research Centre funding is aimed at experienced research leaders who need longer-term or extended support for:

  • research groups
  • inter-institutional research networks
  • programmes of research
  • medium to large surveys
  • other infrastructure or methodological developments
  • any related larger-scale projects.

Independent research fellowships

Open to early-career environmental scientists looking to develop their research programmes. Five years’ support available to further the development of future leaders in NERC science. This includes fellowship networking and training activities.
