Expert review

Your application for a Future Leaders Fellowship is first assessed by relevant independent experts. Panel meetings are held to shortlist and then interview candidates.

Peer review college and panel college

Written assessment is supported by a peer review college that includes experts from across universities, research organisations and business. They come from a range of backgrounds, disciplines, career stages and host organisations. Reviewers that are members of the college assess up to eight proposals a year across two funding opportunities.

Candidates are shortlisted and interviewed by the panel college. The panel college is made up of members who have significant experience or understanding in assessing the quality of major research and innovation projects across a range of areas, beyond their own specialist area. They may also have experience of assessing interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research.

There are four panel meetings a year and panel college members are expected to attend at least one a year, with others attending more to ensure consistency.

Information for reviewers

The Future Leaders Fellowships team delivers peer review in collaboration with all research councils and Innovate UK. As the scheme is hosted by the Medical Research Council (MRC) on the Je-S system, review requests will come from an MRC email address. Please do not be concerned by this, particularly if you are a reviewer from a non-medical discipline.
