Desirée Lopez

Desirée Lopez is a member of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Council.

Desirée has over 20 years of international experience as a social researcher working for Governments, NGOs and private sector brands. Desirée joined Flamingo in 2017 from WPP where she was the CEO of TNS BMRB and Head of the UK Government and Public Sector practice for WPP, having held roles in academia and NGOs previously. She has worked with central government departments, private sector brands, academic organisations and think tanks on social marketing, policy evaluations and national statistics. This includes strategic work on key issues such:

  • sustainability, privacy and wellness for private sector brands such as Google
  • social campaign optimisation for various UK government departments
  • supporting innovation on national statistics and cohort studies, including on studies such as Understanding Society

Globally, she has worked directly for governments in Canada, the US, across the EU, the UAE, Singapore, East Africa and India on social policy and government communication strategy development.

She served as a visiting lecturer at University College London on methodological innovation for more than a decade and led government communication programmes at the Blavatnik School of Government, the University of Oxford and the Lee Kwan Yu School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.

Desirée is a fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences, sits on the Board of the Campaign for Social Science and the Board for the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen).
