Details

21st century challenges are defined as the big and often complex social, environmental and economic challenges facing the UK and other countries.

Examples of challenge areas include:

  • energy
  • infrastructure
  • resources
  • health
  • development
  • defence
  • security
  • resilience.

The 21st Century Challenges Networks were funded to support the creation of multidisciplinary research communities to bring together STFC researchers with challenge owners and provide solutions to these complex, multidisciplinary challenges.
