Global Research Council
We regret to announce that the Annual Meeting for the Global Research Council (GRC) scheduled to take place in Durban, South Africa during 26-28 May 2020 has been postponed until 2021. The GRC have released a statement online which UKRI fully supports. You can read the statement here.
UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is one of more than 60 participants of the Global Research Council (GRC), which is a virtual organisation comprised of the heads of research funding agencies from around the world.
The GRC promotes international research collaboration and impact by providing a unique global forum for research funding agencies to share best practice and data, and discuss research funding policy issues.
The long-term objective of the GRC is to foster multilateral research and collaboration across continents to benefit both developing and developed nations.
UKRI plays an active role on the Executive Support Group (ESG), which is a key body within the GRC. The ESG acts to support the Governing Board, ensures organisational continuity and contributes to the transparency of procedures.
The Associate Director of International, Mike Bright, was elected as GRC Executive Secretary in May 2017 and co-chairs the ESG with the German Research Foundation (DFG).
Each year, the heads of research councils come together to discuss policy issues and specific themes, and meet the GRC’s objectives on behalf of the global research community.
UKRI has played a vital role within the GRC since the organisation’s launch in 2012. In 2016, the former RCUK co-hosted the GRC Annual Meeting with the Indian Science and Engineering Research Board.
