UKRI-NSF Memorandum of Understanding

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has a long history of working in partnership with the US National Science Foundation (NSF) to facilitate excellent joint research and innovation activities.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was first signed in 2013 when the UKRI Councils previously operated under RCUK. In 2018, recognising the success of the partnership, the MoU was renewed. It allows for a wide range of cooperative activities to support high quality research and innovation. The MoU builds on key principles around adopting a collaborative approach to the design and implementation of peer review with the aim of avoiding ‘double jeopardy’ and ensuring a simplified, transparent and flexible process for researchers wishing to apply for UK-US collaborative research funding.

One type of activity supported by the MoU are lead agency funding opportunities – a list of current opportunities are available here.
