Director: Grace Lang 郎琳
Grace Lang has 15 years' experience in initiating and facilitating bilateral and multilateral research and innovation funding initiatives through well-established networks across the UK, Europe and Chinese R&D funding agencies and intermediaries both at national and regional levels, in universities and the private sector. She is currently enrolled in an EMBA programme with the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS).
Grace joined the Research Councils in August 2008 as Deputy Director and became director of the office in July 2014. Between 2003 and July 2008, she headed up the Science and Innovation section in the British Consulate General in Chongqing to drive UK-China R&D collaboration in Southwest China. During the same period, she was also the Science and Innovation Network’s national lead on engineering and materials science in China. Prior to that, Grace worked as an English lecturer in Sichuan International Studies University for several years.
Deputy Director: Dr Glen Noble
Glen joined the China team in October 2015 and is responsible for managing the office and our activities. He has extensive experience in facilitation, programme management and building research and innovation partnerships. He specialises in negotiating international and interdisciplinary programmes having represented the UK both in China and the EU. Before moving to China he spent three years working for the Economic and Social Research Council and developed his experience negotiating projects with a variety of businesses and UK Government departments. Glen completed a PhD in urban geography in 2012 and previously worked as a fundraiser and educator in the voluntary sector.
Nan (Otis) Wang 王楠
Nan Wang joined UK Research and Innovation in September 2018. Before that he spent three years working as an Entry Clearance Assistant and programme coordinator at UK Visas & Immigration. He has also worked as a Media Manager for Affinity Media Agency promoting brands for companies in the science and innovation sector.
Nan (Otis) Wang
Programme Coordinator: Chan Wang 王婵
Chan joined the UK research councils in September 2016. Prior to that, she worked for the Australian Embassy in Beijing on science/innovation policy research and joint research project facilitation funded through the Australian Government’s bilateral science fund with China. Chan also worked for the Investment Promotion Agency of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.
Communications & Programme Manager: Jack Smith
Jack has lived in China for nine years, working in both state and international media as a writer and editor for Foreign Policy, News China and Time Out, before joining the team in the summer of 2016. A graduate of the University of Edinburgh School of Chinese Studies and a specialist in contemporary Chinese language and culture, Jack also spent time as a visiting scholar at Dalian University of Technology and the Beijing Film Academy, and has experience working in film and TV production, marketing, events management, graphic design and the performing arts.
Office Manager: Yiming Hu 胡益明
Yiming Hu joined the UK research councils in April 2017. Before that she spent five years working as an office manager and programme coordinator for the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (TEKES) international science and technology cooperation programme. She has also worked as an administrator for a Finnish smart city company in Beijing.
