Policy for Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs)

We are committed to developing globally competitive social science researchers who are able to operate in interdisciplinary, collaborative and challenge-led environments across a range of sectors, and are drawn from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Our postgraduate training and development guidelines 2022 set out our detailed expectation for research training. These guidelines were informed by the review of the PhD in the social sciences and underpinned the commissioning of 15 doctoral training partnerships that will support new studentships from October 2024.

Between 2017 to 2023 we have supported a network of 14 doctoral training partnerships, each of which supports seven cohorts of students and reflects our postgraduate training strategy 2017 to 2023, as detailed in the postgraduate training and development guidelines 2015.

Further details about the terms and conditions of studentship funding can be found in the postgraduate funding guide.
