Assessment

Once you have submitted your application for funding it will be assessed by experts.

Assessment methods vary in complexity according to the funding opportunity. Some may involve two-stage assessment processes including workshops and interview panels. The funding opportunity that you applied to will set out its assessment process.

Find out more about how we make decisions.

Assessment timing can vary dependent on the process, and may take several months. The funding opportunity will provide more information on timescales.

Successful application

If your application is successful, we will contact you (or your research development manager or officer) with an offer. Find out more about accepting your offer.

You must follow the timescales set out in your offer.

For more information, including how and when you will receive your funding award, and its terms and conditions, see Manage your award.

Unsuccessful application

Feedback

We will inform you if your application has not been successful.

Applicants will receive feedback when a decision on their application is made. The form of feedback will vary, depending on:

  • the point in the assessment journey where a decision is made
  • the type of assessment used

Applications submitted to funding opportunities that use peer review followed by moderating panels will receive peer reviewer comments as feedback. Additional feedback will not be available.
