How to develop and maintain a website - ESRC

Contents

Website performance

Your website must perform across different web browsers and screen resolutions.

Browser compatibility

Websites can display differently in different web browsers. You need to test that your website works properly across all common browsers, including:

  • Internet Explorer
  • Firefox
  • Chrome
  • Safari.

You should also test that your site works well on mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones.

Screen resolution

There are many screen resolutions available, ranging from 640 by 480 pixels to 1,024 by 768 pixels, and higher. Your website should display properly across all screen resolutions.

Page load times

Your website must load quickly – ideally in less than 10 seconds – otherwise users are unlikely to continue viewing it.
