What to include in your application - NERC

Embedding impact in your application

A separate pathways to impact statement is no longer required. Depending on the requirements of the specific funding opportunity, you should still consider how you will or might achieve impact throughout your project and include this as part of your application.

You should refer to specific opportunity guidelines and assessment criteria when embedding impact within your application.

Activities to realise impact do not have to be cost-incurring, but relevant costs can be included and must be fully justified within the application.

Excellence with impact remains a central goal for UK Research and Innovation. All research grant and fellowship applicants should consider how they will or might achieve impact outside the scientific community.

The research councils’ policy is that grant applicants are responsible for considering how their research can achieve excellence with impact.

By capturing and communicating the impact of those activities, to government and other key stakeholders, NERC can demonstrate the importance of environmental science and ensure government continues to support your work.
