Kay, or Kathleen, Callow has had an extraordinary life.

For 18 years, she worked at the Medical Research Council’s Common Cold Unit in Salisbury. Here she helped make key discoveries about coronaviruses, a class of viruses that cause a range of diseases, from colds to COVID-19.
