In April 2018 she was appointed Executive Chair of BBSRC after serving two years as Interim Executive Chair for the council.

Melanie is also UKRI Executive Champion for People, Culture and Talent.

Welcoming the news

UKRI Chief Executive Professor Dame Ottoline Leyser said:

It’s wonderful to see Melanie recognised for her outstanding service to bioscience in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours list.

Melanie is a preeminent figure in UKRI, both in her role leading BBSRC and as UKRI’s champion for people, culture and talent.

BBSRC has thrived under her leadership and her work to improve research culture in the UK is transformative.

Huge and well-deserved congratulations to her.
