A ground-breaking event series to explore environmental solutions in a post COVID-19 world will conclude with a special webinar later this month to discuss its outcomes.

The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Ideas Series set out to engage people from a range of backgrounds including academia, policy and industry and other disciplines, and bring them together in facilitated workshops around three focused themes:

  • managing pathogens in the environment
  • greening the ‘build back’
  • healthy people, healthy places.

Engaging communities

The series began in June with a ‘frontiers’ workshop that was thought-provoking and engaging, encouraging participants to consider the issues and the state of current knowledge.

It then continued through to mid-July with participants bringing their ideas to the virtual tables, inspiring productive discussions around environmental solutions within the thematic domains.

Virtual event

The team at NERC are now planning to hold a virtual event which will discuss the outcomes from the series and also provide a chance for participants to ask questions of a special webinar panel.

The NERC COVID-19 Ideas Series webinar will take place on Monday 28 September 2020.

Susan Waldron, Director of Research and Skills at NERC, said:

Environmental science has a vital contribution to make to support our recovery after COVID-19. We were hugely impressed with the participation of the Ideas Series over the summer, and the innovative solutions that that were presented. We’re looking forward to discussing these ideas in the webinar later this month.
