UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has published its annual report and accounts, covering the financial year 2020-21.
The annual report and accounts encompass all nine of UKRI’s constituent research councils and has been laid before parliament.
It contains the performance report, which details a number of significant milestones and achievements for UKRI.
This includes our work supporting the national and international effort to understand and mitigate the effects of the pandemic on our lives and the economy, and develop vaccines and treatments.
Delivering ongoing priorities
We also continued to deliver against our ongoing priorities through key programmes such as:
- the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, for example investing in the commercialising quantum technologies and industrial decarbonisation challenges
- our reforming our business programme to improve UKRI’s efficiency and effectiveness.
Writing in the introduction to the report, UKRI Chief Executive Professor Dame Ottoline Leyser said:
The many challenges we have faced throughout the pandemic have made powerfully evident the value of a strong, well-integrated research and innovation system.
This highlights UKRI’s responsibility as the main public funder of research and innovation to support the health and vibrancy of this crucial national asset.
