Clinician scientist fellowship: Jan 2022

Apply for funding to support your move to independent investigator. Your research can focus on any area of MRC’s remit to improve human health.

You must be a registered healthcare professional with a PhD.

You must be able to show:

  • evidence of career progression
  • clear plans to develop leadership in your own specialist area of research.

Clinical research training fellowship: Jan 2022

Apply for funding to undertake a PhD or to reacquire research skills. Your research can focus on any area of MRC’s remit to improve human health.

You must be a registered healthcare professional, either:

  • planning to undertake a PhD or similar
  • a PhD graduate working outside of research for at least five years.

Transition support for MRC intermediate fellows: 2021

Apply for funding for up to two years. This includes half of your salary.

The scheme is for current fellows whose research has been affected by several issues.

You can apply if you:

  • currently hold an MRC career development award or clinician scientist fellowship
  • are in the final 12 to 18 months of your fellowship.

Coordinate a programme of health inequalities research

Apply to coordinate the ‘Mobilising Cultural and Natural Assets to Combat Health Inequalities’ programme.

You must be:

  • a UK resident
  • hosted by a research organisation eligible for AHRC funding.

Using data to improve public health: COVID-19 secondment

Apply for funding to work for a year with experts in the analysis and interpretation of:

  • national anonymised linked electronic health records
  • multiple population longitudinal studies.

You can apply if you have an analytical background. We will fund early to mid-career researchers and professionals from eligible organisations.

Future Leaders Fellowships: Round 6

The Future Leaders Fellowships is a £900 million fund for early career researchers and innovators. It supports research and innovation by outstanding individuals and helps them to establish themselves in universities, UK-registered businesses and other research and innovation environments.

We will contribute to your salary and project costs with no limit on the amount you can apply for.

MRC clinician scientist fellowship: Apr 2021

This award can help you become an independent investigator through a programme of research and training lasting up to five years. We will provide your salary plus some support costs.

To apply, you must have:

  • research plans within MRC’s remit which do not overlap with those of your current group leader or proposed sponsor
  • a track record of challenging, original and productive research across past appointments, and an upward trajectory
  • identified opportunities for developing and progressing in your career

You must have a higher research degree in medicine or another clinical area.
