Future Leaders Fellowships: Round 6

The Future Leaders Fellowships is a £900 million fund for early career researchers and innovators. It supports research and innovation by outstanding individuals and helps them to establish themselves in universities, UK-registered businesses and other research and innovation environments.

BBSRC enterprise fellowships

Apply for funding to create a business, building on your previous BBSRC-funded research.

The fellowship provides:

  • a year’s salary
  • access to mentors, business experts and professional advisors
  • tailored business training.

This opportunity is open to UK researchers.

BBSRC Discovery Fellowship 2021

Apply for a fellowship to support your first steps into independent research and gain leadership skills.

You must have completed a successful PhD viva by 30 November 2021.

This is the only Discovery Fellowship opportunity open in 2021.

BBSRC Discovery Fellowships 2022

Apply for a fellowship to carry out independent research within a host laboratory and gain leadership skills.

Your project must be within BBSRC’s remit.

The full economic cost of your project can be up to £500,000. BBSRC will fund 80% of the full economic cost.

Turing AI World-Leading Researcher Fellowships: round two

Apply for funding to undertake world-leading research to advance the field of artificial intelligence (AI) in the UK.

This opportunity is aimed at established researchers. International applicants are welcome. However, you must be based in the UK at an organisation eligible for UK Research and Innovation funding to hold the fellowship.

Future Leaders Fellowships: round seven

This scheme is for early career researchers and innovators who are either:

  • looking to establish or transition to independence
  • developing their own original and ambitious plans within a commercial setting.

We are offering funding to support ambitious research or innovation programmes across UKRI’s remit.

You must be based at, and have the support of, an eligible academic or non-academic institution.

UKRI policy fellowships 2023

Apply for funding to collaborate with a UK or devolved government host or What Works Network centre on research activity to address pressing national and global challenges.

You must:

  • be based at an organisation eligible for UKRI funding
  • have a PhD or equivalent experience

BBSRC Discovery Fellowships 2023

Apply for funding to carry out independent research within a host laboratory and gain leadership skills.

You must be able to demonstrate appropriate and relevant research, technical or innovation experience.

You are not eligible to apply if you hold or have held any post or position at lecturer level (or equivalent in an institution other than a university).

The fellowship must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for BBSRC funding.

Apply for funding to support ambitious research and innovation across UKRI’s remit.

You must be an early career researcher or innovator who is either:

  • looking to establish or transition to independence
  • developing their own original and ambitious plans within a commercial setting
