2024 BBSRC Fellowships scheme

Apply for funding to carry out independent research within a host laboratory and gain leadership skills.

You are not eligible to apply if you hold or have held any post or position at lecturer level (or equivalent). You must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for BBSRC funding.

UK registered organisations can apply for a share of up to £2.5 million for early stage feasibility projects working with one or more of the Diet and Health Open Innovation Research Club hubs. This funding is from BBSRC and Innovate UK.

Future-proofing plants to a changing climate: stage two

Apply for research grant funding towards future proofing plants for a changing climate.

Your proposal must involve researchers based in the UK, USA and Germany.

UK applicants must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for BBSRC funding.

German investigators must be eligible for DFG funding.

US investigators must be eligible for NSF or USDA-NIFA funding.

Business and academia prosperity partnership: round 2 full stage

Apply for funding to support emerging or established research-based partnerships between business and academic institutions.

You must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for BBSRC funding.

Future Leaders Fellowships: round 9

Funding to support ambitious research and innovation across UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)’s remit. You must be an early career researcher or innovator who is either:

  • looking to establish or transition to independence
  • developing your own original and ambitious plans within a commercial setting

Global Centres (GC) addressing global challenges through bioeconomy

Apply for funding to support large-scale international research collaboration projects to address global challenges through the bioeconomy.

BBSRC will provide matched funding to support Global Centres that facilitate international, interdisciplinary collaborations and workforce training.

You must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for BBSRC funding.

UKRI-Southeast Asia collaboration on infectious diseases

Apply for funding to support UK-Southeast Asia collaborations with partners in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, and Singapore on infectious diseases with antimicrobial resistance or epidemic potential. Multilateral research teams are encouraged.

Bioinformatics and Biological Resources Fund (24BBR)

Apply for funding to implement, improve or consolidate bioinformatics or biological resources in support of UK bioscience, helping to drive forwards progress in bioscience research and innovation.

You must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for BBSRC funding.

Resource-efficient or bio-based materials and manufacturing, FS 2

UK registered organisations can apply for a share of up to £1 million for innovative feasibility studies in advanced low carbon manufacturing. This funding is from Innovate UK and BBSRC.

2024-25 strategic Longer and Larger (sLoLa) grants: stage 1

Apply for funding to undertake large team-based fundamental bioscience research projects which push the frontiers of human knowledge.

You must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for BBSRC funding.
