You can request a contribution of between £100,000 and £800,000.

MRC Centre of Research Excellence (CoRE): round 1

Apply for MRC Centre of Research Excellence (CoRE) funding to tackle complex and interdisciplinary health challenges.

You must:

  • be based at an organisation eligible for MRC funding
  • meet individual eligibility requirements

MRC CoREs will be funded for up to 14 years, on a 7 plus 7 year basis.

Infections and immunity partnership

Apply for funding to support new partnerships between diverse groups of researchers in infections and immunity.

You must:

  • be a researcher employed by a research organisation eligible to apply for MRC funding
  • have at least a postgraduate degree.

Developmental Pathway Funding Scheme

Apply for funding to develop and test novel therapeutics, medical devices, diagnostics and other interventions.

You must:

  • be based at a research organisation eligible for MRC funding
  • meet individual eligibility requirements

Build on existing COVID-19 infrastructure, partnerships and resources

Apply for funding to build on existing COVID-19 collaborative infrastructure, partnerships and resources.

You must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for MRC funding.

Proposals must be within remit of MRC’s four research boards.

Applied global health research

Apply for funding to support research that will address global health challenges and inequities.

We will accept proposals of all sizes, including large research projects and small to medium-scale applications.

Develop guidance for better research methods

Apply for funding to develop new guidance on biomedical and health research methods.

The guidance should aim to:

  • improve the understanding and use of better methods related to the remit of MRC or NIHR
  • be accessible to those without specialist methodology knowledge.

You must have a postgraduate degree and be based at an eligible research organisation.

Clinical academic research partnerships

Apply for funding to develop your research interests through a collaborative partnership.

You must be a research-qualified healthcare professional at consultant level or equivalent. You must not be currently undertaking any substantial research activity.

You must have a research partner based at an eligible research organisation.

Neurosciences and mental health partnership

Apply for funding to support new partnerships between diverse groups of researchers in neurosciences and mental health.

You must:

  • be a researcher employed by a research organisation eligible to apply for MRC funding
  • have at least a postgraduate degree.
