BBSRC Innovation to Commercialisation of University Research (ICURe) Explore

Apply for funding to ‘get out of the lab’ and test your technology in the market to uncover its commercial potential.

BBSRC ICURe Explore is open to research teams in all:

  • UK universities
  • BBSRC-funded institutes
  • approved public sector research enterprises

This specific cohort is a pilot collaboration between BBSRC, Kidney Research UK and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

BBSRC Innovation to Commercialisation of University Research (ICURe) Discover

Apply for funding to discover more about the potential market of your bioscience-based idea, increase market awareness and gain deeper understanding of potential technology applications.

BBSRC ICURe Discover is open to bioscience researchers (including PhD students, technicians, postdoctoral research associates, fellowship and group leader positions) in all UK universities, BBSRC-funded institutes and approved public sector research enterprises.

BBSRC Standard research grant: 2024 round 3: responsive mode

Apply for funding for a research grant in any area within the remit of Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).

You must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for BBSRC funding.

BBSRC international travel award scheme

You can apply for up to £3,000 to cover travel and subsistence when travelling outside the UK in support of your BBSRC-funded research.

BBSRC Brazil pump-priming award

You can apply for up to £35,000 over two years to pump-prime collaborations between scientists in the UK and São Paolo state in Brazil. The awards support the development of future applications within our remit under the UK Research and Innovation-São Paulo Research Foundation lead agency agreement.

Knowledge Transfer Partnership

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships help businesses to partner with an academic organisation, research organisation or a Catapult, to employ a graduate with the skills and knowledge that can help the business to innovate and grow.

Daphne Jackson fellowship

These fellowships are for those looking to return to a research career after a break. Fellowships combine a personalised retraining programme with a challenging research project. They are flexible, usually lasting two years at 0.5 full-time equivalent, although some UKRI funders may award longer.

UKRI-SBE lead agency opportunity

The UKRI-SBE lead agency opportunity allows UK and US-based researchers to submit a collaborative proposal that will go through a single review process. Grants are funded through existing funding programmes at the relevant lead agency.

Collaborate with researchers in Brazil

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and FAPESP’s lead agency agreement allows UKRI to assess joint applications from eligible UK and Brazil-based researchers from the state of São Paulo on behalf of both organisations.

UKRI and FAPESP will co-fund applications submitted to responsive mode funding opportunities via selected funding opportunities.
