Experimental medicine

Apply for funding to investigate the causes, progression and treatment of human disease. Your proposal must include an experimental intervention or challenge in humans.

You must be based at an eligible research organisation. Any researcher employed by an eligible research organisation, including MRC institutes and units (including those in Gambia and Uganda), can apply for this funding opportunity.

You can apply if you hold a fellowship or lectureship.

This is an ongoing scheme. Application rounds open every six months, closing in April and October.

 

Develop new approaches to small molecule medicine

Apply for funding to research starting points for small molecule medicinal drugs.

You must be a researcher working at an eligible UK institution.

Daphne Jackson fellowship

These fellowships are for those looking to return to a research career after a break. Fellowships combine a personalised retraining programme with a challenging research project. They are flexible, usually lasting two years at 0.5 full-time equivalent, although some UKRI funders may award longer.

Researching ME/CFS: highlight notice

Apply for funding to research myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), also known as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).

You can get the funding through any of the existing:

  • grants from MRC research boards
  • MRC fellowships.

You should apply through the existing funding opportunity that is most relevant to your science area and career stage.
