Alison Jarvis

UKRI Audit and Risk Assurance Committee member

Alison Jarvis is a member of the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Audit and Risk Assurance Committee.

Alison is Chief Financial Officer at the University of Plymouth where she has responsibility for all financial matters across the group as well as strategic leadership of HR, IT and estates. She also leads the professional services transformation programme within the portfolio and across the wider university.

Prior to this, Alison was Director of Financial Operations at Cardiff University for just over four years, where she led:

  • financial strategy
  • long-term planning
  • financial sustainability
  • an ambitious five-year finance transformation programme across the university

Before her move into higher education in 2018, Alison was the Head of Finance at the Higher Education Funding Council for England, which later transitioned into the Office for Students. Alison was responsible for sector funding and all financial matters for the organisation and delivered a significant IT system transformation. Alison also represented the organisation’s interests in several education and research policy and finance committees across government.

In 2020, Alison was appointed Non-Exec Director of The Energy Consortium, where she advises on finance, governance and strategy and provides insight into the wider higher education landscapes. In 2022, Alison became a lay member of the Audit Committee at the Education Workforce Council.

Alison’s career started in government, where she held a number of senior positions in finance at the Office for National Statistics and led a number of challenging comprehensive spending review bids, securing essential funding to deliver policy reform. Alison is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and an alumni of Cardiff University.
