Professor Catherine Hobbs

EPSRC Council member

Professor Catherine Hobbs CMath FIMA, is a member of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Council.

Catherine is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Bristol.

She is also Chair of the Heilbronn Institute for Mathematical Research, a national centre supporting research across a range of areas of mathematics in the UK.

Her interests are in applications of mathematics to real world problems.

Catherine has extensive experience of academic leadership, having served as Head of Department of mathematics and engineering departments and Academic Dean at:

  • Oxford Brookes University
  • the University of the West of England
  • Coventry University

At national level, Catherine leads on policy for the Academy of Mathematical Sciences and sits on the board of the UK Knowledge Exchange Hub for the Mathematical Sciences.

Catherine is a strong advocate for those currently under-represented in science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines and is a trustee of the Engineering Development Trust.
