ESRC Deputy Director of Strategy and International Partnerships

Emily Clarke is Deputy Director of Strategy and International Partnerships at the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

Emily leads on developing and overseeing the implementation of the council’s overall strategic plans and international partnership working. This involves a major horizon scanning function, drawing together, analysing and integrating intelligence created across ESRC through engagement with a wide variety of stakeholders.

Prior to joining ESRC Emily has worked in strategic planning in the Science and Technology Facilities Council and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), with specific responsibility for UKRI’s infrastructure investments. She started her career as a scientific officer at the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology before working as Assistant College Registrar at the University of Aberdeen, with responsibility for strategic projects and other core business operations to enhance opportunities for scientific research and impact. She holds a PhD in Plant Sciences and an undergraduate degree in tropical ecology.
