EPSRC Council member
Jon-Paul Sherlock is a member of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Council.
Jon-Paul is Executive Director, APICOM Site Lead for AstraZeneca.
Jon-Paul is accountable for building a new internal API commercialisation capability in Ireland, establishing the organisation, management systems and facility required for the accelerated launch of new medicines.
The facility is a first-of-its-kind autonomous factory, with continuous manufacturing and process analytical technologies.
In his career, he has led development and commercialisation of new medicines and the introduction of new manufacturing technologies that:
- improve quality and process robustness
- supply chain agility
- reduce costs
- ensure the AstraZeneca supply network is fit for the future
Jon-Paul has a PhD in chemical engineering, is a chartered chemical engineer, Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering and has over 25 years’ experience of pharmaceutical research and development.
Jon-Paul has created links between industry and academia, founding significant collaborations in formulation, physical processing and advanced manufacturing technologies.
He is a Visiting Professor at the universities of Manchester, Strathclyde and Leeds.
He has been a Research Excellence Framework impactor assessor and supported EPSRC through membership of the Peer Review College and the Manufacturing the Future Strategic Advisory Team.
