ESRC Council member
Professor Lasana T. Harris PhD is a member of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Council.
Lasana is appointed Professor of Social Neuroscience in the Experimental Psychology Department in Psychology and Language Sciences at University College London (UCL), where he is the Vice Dean for Global Engagement in the Faculty of Brain Sciences.
He is also the equality, diversity, and inclusion lead for post-graduate taught academic and workforce programmes at the Anna Freud Centre, and a fellow at the Turing Institute.
He completed his undergraduate education at Howard University, US, and received postgraduate training at Princeton University, US. He has held positions at New York University, US, Duke University, US, and Leiden University, the Netherlands, before coming to UCL.
Professor Harris is a social neuroscientist who takes an interdisciplinary approach to understand human behaviour. His research explores the brain and physiological correlates of:
- person perception
- social learning
- emotions
- inferences
- prejudice
- dehumanisation
- anthropomorphism
- punishment
- decision-making
His research addresses questions such as:
- how do we see people as less than human, and non-human objects as human beings?
- how do we modulate affective responses to people?
- how do we make social, legal, ethical, and economic decisions?
