STFC Council member

Lucy Edge is a member of the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Council.

Lucy is Chief Operating Officer at ReOrbit, a Helsinki-based scale-up pioneering advancements in software-defined satellites. She brings over two decades of experience in the commercial space and telecommunications sectors, with a strong track record of leading innovation and delivering complex programmes from concept to operation.

Previously, Lucy was Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Space Catapult, where she helped shape the UK’s space innovation ecosystem and supported high-growth businesses in turning space capabilities into real-world solutions.

Her career also includes roles at the European Space Agency in Germany and at Avanti Communications, where she delivered missions providing communications services across multiple continents.

Lucy has been a driving force behind the growth of the UK space sector, including establishing a commercial satellite operations centre in Goonhilly, Cornwall and championing the development of regional space clusters. With a background in physics and engineering, she works closely with UK enterprises to unlock the potential of space technologies.

She is Vice Chair of the Royal Mencap Society and has held several advisory and governance roles, including Chair of an STFC space spin-out, board member of Local Enterprise Partnerships, and director at the Eden Project.
