ESRC Associate Director of Governance and Policy
Peter Ethelston is Associate Director of Governance and Policy at the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
Peter moved into this role in October 2021 having previously been Head of People Policy and Management for UK Research and Innovation. Much of his career in the UK was spent in the research councils in various HR roles.
The role of the Governance and Policy Team includes oversight of a wide range of governance related activities within his team, including Council and support for the Senior Leadership Team, audit, research misconduct, research ethics, complaints, research funding policy and training as well as risk management.
The team will also be supporting the EDI agenda with a focus on organisational culture and recruitment, as well as programme and project management across ESRC.
Peter has a Social Science degree from the University of Cape Town and a post graduate diploma in Adult Education from the University of Johannesburg.
