EPSRC Council member
Professor Robert Mokaya OBE FRS is a member of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Council.
He is an internationally leading researcher in materials for sustainable energy applications, and in particular the design, synthesis and study of novel porous materials for use in catalysis, energy storage and environmental remediation. His research group is based at the School of Chemistry, University of Nottingham.
After undergraduate study at the University of Nairobi, Kenya, and a PhD from the University of Cambridge, he held a Research Fellowship at Trinity College, Cambridge followed by an EPSRC Advanced Fellowship.
He joined the School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham as a lecturer (2000 to 2005), and was Reader (2005 to 2007), and subsequently professor.
His academic leadership roles include:
- Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement (2016 to 2018)
- Pro Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement (2019 to 2024) at the University of Nottingham
- Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Sheffield
He has previously held a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award (2017 to 2022). He was appointed OBE in 2022 for services to the Chemical Sciences and is a Fellow of the Royal Society and the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Robert is President-Elect of the Royal Society of Chemistry (2024 to 2026) and will be President for the period 2026 to 2028.
