This strategic review explores the transformative impact of data-intensive approaches across the biosciences. The review identifies key barriers and opportunities, and presents seven strategic recommendations to strengthen the UK’s leadership in data-intensive bioscience. These include:
- enhancing mathematical and computational skills within the biosciences
- establishing professional roles to support data-driven research
- building coherent digital infrastructure
- investing in high-quality software and data resources
- updating data sharing policies
- supporting community coordination and capacity building
- embedding data-intensive research in peer review processes
- this review serves as a foundation for future investment, policy development, and community engagement to ensure the UK remains at the forefront of bioscience innovation
