This strategic review explores the transformative impact of data-intensive approaches across the biosciences. The review identifies key barriers and opportunities, and presents seven strategic recommendations to strengthen the UK’s leadership in data-intensive bioscience. These include:

  • enhancing mathematical and computational skills within the biosciences
  • establishing professional roles to support data-driven research
  • building coherent digital infrastructure
  • investing in high-quality software and data resources
  • updating data sharing policies
  • supporting community coordination and capacity building
  • embedding data-intensive research in peer review processes
  • this review serves as a foundation for future investment, policy development, and community engagement to ensure the UK remains at the forefront of bioscience innovation
