Regional distribution of funding

Why we analyse regional data

The government wants to help more places in the UK:

  • fulfil their research and development potential
  • experience long-term economic benefits.

To do that, we need to know how places are currently benefiting from research and development funding.

We publish this data yearly. In the future we will further improve the quality, breadth and depth of data. That will let us build more evidence and do more analysis.

The data uses NUTS 1 and NUTS 2 (nomenclature of territorial units for statistics levels 1 and 2) regional classifications, which divide the country into 12 major nations and regions. Find out more about NUTS areas (Office for National Statistics website)
