The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) 2022 community webinar took place on 2 December 2022, hosted by Deputy Executive Chair, Professor Guy Poppy.
The 90-minute webinar provided attendees with the opportunity to hear more about BBSRC’s strategic delivery plan (2022 to 2025) and our ambitions for UK bioscience over the next 3 years presented by Executive Chair, Professor Melanie Welham.
Following discussions with our community, BBSRC also identified a couple of emerging themes to focus on which would be of interest to our stakeholders. This included sessions on international partnering led by Dr Amanda Collis, Executive Director, Research Strategy and Programmes, and talent mobility with Aidan Grimsley, Senior Portfolio Manager, Skills and Careers Unit.
These sessions explored BBSRC’s role as a connector and convener for supporting bioscience careers and international partnering, including a section on Horizon Europe alternatives.
As an interactive webinar, all areas of the bioscience community were invited to submit questions and comments both in advance of the webinar and during the discussions. The webinar ended with a live questions and answers with members of BBSRC’s executive leadership team.
Attendees were also given the opportunity to provide their thoughts and views using interactive Mentimeter polls.
The webinar enabled attendees to raise any questions relevant to BBSRC’s strategic direction and future activity, as well as any immediate challenges or opportunities for bioscience.
