How NERC is governed

NERC funding, administrative and corporate activities are run from our head office which is home to around 200 staff. We support six research centres, and several scientific institutes around the UK work in partnership with us to carry out research as it is needed.

NERC Council

The NERC Council is responsible both for advising the NERC Executive Chair and making decisions, as delegated to it by the UKRI Board, on scientific, research and innovation matters.

Science Committee

The Science Committee brings broad strategic perspective and expertise to support the development and delivery of the UKRI-NERC strategic priorities, investments and policies.

NERC Assurance Board

The NERC Assurance Board (NAB) provides a focus for assurance within NERC, supporting the Executive Chair in fulfilling their responsibilities.
