BGS is a research centre under Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and forms part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

BGS has a public science role to provide an accessible and accurate assessment of the subsurface of the UK to underpin public and government requirements. The public science role is delivered through UKRI and NERC National Capability science funding and, in 2020 to 2021, we received £31.5 million.

We are now looking to appoint two BGS Non-Executive Directors with the expertise and complimentary skill set and experience to support the overall skills composition of the board.

The non-executive directors will be appointed by NERC on the recommendation of a selection panel.

The non-executive directors will between them have a broad range of expertise and experience in research and innovation. This will be across higher education, industry and commerce, policy or civil society, reflecting different characteristics and professional backgrounds.
