Funding opportunity: BBSRC-STFC Biotechnology Business Incubation Centre (BioBIC)

The BioBIC is open to UK-registered companies under five years old that are majority-owned by founders and employees and that build on previous UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) research funding.

The BioBIC is an incubator programme for early-stage biotechnology start-ups based at Sci-Tech Daresbury in the Liverpool City Region. The BioBIC provides £45,000 of research and development funding, in addition to technical, commercial and intellectual property support to help start-ups de-risk their technologies and get to market faster.

Who can apply

The BioBIC is open to UK-registered companies under five years old that are majority-owned by founders and employees.

The research underpinning the products or services being carried forward by the company must be building on a previous BBSRC or other UKRI grant that is taking forward a bioscience innovation to address a market opportunity.

What we're looking for

The research underpinning the products or services being carried forward by the research team must be building on a previous BBSRC or other UKRI grant that is taking forward a bioscience innovation to address any market opportunity.

The technology must be either biological in nature, interact with a biological entity, involve a biological process, or address a biological challenge.

Applications based on medical or clinical devices and therapeutics being developed solely for a specific end-point clinical utility (including diagnostics) will not be accepted.

How we will assess your application

All applications will go through a competitive selection process.

Expressions of interest are limited to one per company. Submissions will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.

Once submitted, companies will be notified if they have been successfully shortlisted to submit a full application within two weeks of submission and by 25 August 2023 at the latest.
