Funding opportunity

Funding opportunity: Modern slavery in the UK and wider laws and policies

The first stage of this funding opportunity is managed by the Modern Slavery PEC.

See the full opportunity details on the Modern Slavery PEC website.

Apply for funding to show how legal and policy frameworks affect modern slavery.

To lead a project you must be an eligible researcher from either:

  • a UK higher education institution (HEI)
  • an approved independent research organisation (IRO).

Your research must:

  • explore the ways legal and policy frameworks in the UK are implicated in modern slavery
  • support strategic thinking in the design or redesign of policies to better safeguard against modern slavery.

Your project must provide new evidence of how modern slavery is affected by laws and policies around:

  • immigration and asylum
  • the labour market
  • sex work
  • safeguarding in health and social protection
  • criminal justice, for example drug policies
  • international development and foreign policy
  • another area, if you can justify it.

The full economic cost of your project can be up to £250,000. AHRC and ESRC will fund 80% of the full economic cost.

Apply for funding to generate evidence on the ways legal and policy frameworks are implicated in modern slavery.
