Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Diseases 2020

The central theme is the quantitative or computational understanding of pathogen transmission dynamics.

Applicants welcome from transdisciplinary teams who research the:

  • ecological
  • evolutionary
  • social drivers

which influence the transmission dynamics of infectious diseases of animals, humans and plants.

UK-India COVID-19 partnership initiative

You can apply for funding to support research collaborations between researchers in India and the UK. Your research should focus on comparing south Asian populations in the two countries to improve our understanding of COVID-19 and have potential for improving health outcomes.

Long-term COVID-19 effects in non-hospitalised individuals

Apply for funding for research into the causes, mechanisms and management of the longer-term physical and mental health effects of COVID-19 in non-hospitalised individuals.

Up to £20 million is available to fund two or three proposals. Projects can last up to three years.

Proposals are invited for short-term projects addressing and mitigating the health, social, economic, cultural and environmental impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak.

UK-Canada Globalink doctoral exchange scheme

A new and exciting opportunity for UKRI and Canadian doctoral students to participate in a UK-Canada research exchange scheme.

Now open for the third round for applications from UKRI funded doctoral students until 15 December 2020, the UK-Canada Globalink doctoral exchange scheme will support travel, living and research costs for the students in their chosen field of study. Following a competitive application process, the first exchanges will take place from April 2021.

Experimental medicine grants: Dec 2020

You can apply for funding through the Medical Reseach Council’s Experimental Medicine Panel.

Up to £10 million a year is available for research into the causes, progression and treatment of human disease through experimental intervention. Your proposal can focus on any disease.

You must be based at an eligible organisation.

MRC clinical research training fellowships: Jan 2021

You can get funding to support predoctoral and postdoctoral research proposals across any area of MRC’s remit to improve human health. You can apply for a fellowship lasting between two and four years but they usually last for three. The funding will cover your salary and related expenses.

MRC clinician scientist fellowship: Jan 2021

This award can help you become an independent investigator through a programme of research and training lasting up to five years. We will provide your salary plus some support costs.

To apply, you must have:

  • research plans within MRC’s remit which do not overlap with those of your current group leader or proposed sponsor
  • a track record of challenging, original and productive research across past appointments, and an upward trajectory
  • identified opportunities for developing and progressing in your career

You must have a higher research degree in medicine or another clinical area.

MRC Molecular and cellular medicine research grant: Jan 2021

An MRC research grant is the main way for UK-based medical researchers to apply for researcher-led project funding. You should apply if your research is on molecular and cellular medicine.

There is no limit to the funding you can request. This funding opportunity runs three times every year.
