Cultural Heritage, Identities and Perspectives: Responding to Changing Societies: Sep 2020

Expression of interest: COVID-19’s impacts on disabled people

For innovation awards or case studies on COVID-19’s impacts on disabled people. Apply for up to £100,000 full economic cost (FEC) for up to six months. This funding opportunity aims to bring together UK and low and middle income country (LMIC) cross-disciplinary researchers.

Marine Wave Energy

The Wave Energy Roadmap commissioned through the Supergen Offshore Renewable Energy Hub concludes that targeted research and innovation will play an important role in the Wave Energy journey to commercialisation. As a result, EPSRC is looking to fund proposals, particularly in the key areas highlighted by the roadmap:

  • novel designs for niche applications
  • survivability and reliability of devices in the marine environment
  • power take off and control systems
  • modelling, forecasting and evaluation of wave energy resource
  • new materials for Wave Energy Converters.

Modern Slavery and Human Rights Policy and Evidence Centre: the impact of COVID-19 on modern slavery: Sep 2020

Funding for evidence-based research to improve the understanding of the effects of the pandemic on society, that are associated with modern slavery.

This includes both:

  • responses by governments, businesses and organisations that affect exploitation
  • the systems underpinning exploitative practices.

Global effort on COVID-19 health research

Apply for funding to improve our understanding of the pandemic in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) and find ways to reduce its health impacts. This funding opportunity is open to researchers based in LMICs, or UK researchers working in partnership with LMIC investigators.

Innovation continuity loans: Strand 2 follow-on competition

Innovate UK can provide additional COVID-19 innovation continuity loans for the continuation of planned or existing innovation activity.

Industrial CASE Studentships

We invite PhD students to work with non-academic partners on projects that fall within the STFC core science programme of astronomy, particle physics, nuclear physics and accelerator science. Projects must aim to apply technologies or techniques developed within the programme into other areas.

Digital Economy: Sustainable Digital Society

We are investing up to £5 million (at 80% full economic cost) of EPSRC funding to support around six sociotechnical, interdisciplinary, co-created, novel research projects.

The projects should explore user-focused, transformational digital technologies and services to achieve a sustainable digital society.

The Digital Economy Theme welcomes multidisciplinary research that spans the whole of the remit of UK Research and Innovation. The research must be at least 50% within EPSRC’s remit to qualify for funding.

Decarbonising Heating and Cooling 2

This funding opportunity is to fund proposals to support the goal of the decarbonisation of heating and cooling.  Proposals must be at least 50% within the remit of EPSRC or at least 50% within the remit of NERC.

Centres Competition 2020

Research Centre funding is aimed at experienced research leaders who need longer-term or extended support for:

  • research groups
  • inter-institutional research networks
  • programmes of research
  • medium to large surveys
  • other infrastructure or methodological developments
  • any related larger-scale projects.
