Anita Charlesworth

ESRC Council member

Anita Charlesworth is a member of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Council.

Anita is Director of Research and REAL Centre (Research and Economic Analysis for the Long Term) at the Health Foundation. The Health Foundation is an independent, charitable foundation that funds and undertakes research and analysis on health and care in the UK.

Anita has experience as a civil servant at HM Treasury where she was Director of Public Spending. She is a health economist who has worked in government, pharmaceuticals and the third sector.

Anita is a non-executive director at the North West London Integrated Care Board, which oversees NHS services for 2.3 million people. She is an honorary professor in the College of Social Sciences at the Health Services Management Centre at the University of Birmingham.

Anita is also a member of the Council of the Royal Economic Society, Health and Social Care Select Committee Expert Panel and University of Bath, Institute for Policy Research Advisory Board.

Anita has an MSc in health economics from the University of York. She is a trustee for the baby charity Tommy’s, and chair of the Office of Health Economics. In 2017, she was awarded a CBE in The Queen’s Birthday Honours List for services to economics and health policy.
