Professor Dame Xiangqian (Jane) Jiang

Professor Dame Xiangqian (Jane) Jiang DBE FREng is a member of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Council.

Jane holds a Royal Academy of Engineering or Renishaw Chair in Precision Metrology at the University of Huddersfield and is the Director of the EPSRC Future Metrology Hub.

She obtained her PhD in measurement science in 1995, a DSc for precision engineering in 2007, and an honorary DSc from City, University of London in 2019.

She is an internationally respected research leader in advanced metrology, with a background in both industry and academia.

She is particularly interested in modelling non-Euclidean geometries, artificial intelligence ready characterisation technologies, and nanophotonics-enabled optical sensors and instruments.

She has published more than 500 papers, books, and patents, and has been awarded research grants including EPSRC Strategic and Programme, and ERC Advanced Grants.

She has intensively worked with industries and transferred many research outputs into industrial products and ISO standards.

She is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, International Academy of Production Research (Collège International pour la Recherche en Productique, CIRP) and Institute of Engineering Technology.

She has previously held a Royal Society Wolfson Merit Award. She works with EPSRC through her membership of the Strategic Advisory Network (2018 to 2020) and the Science, Engineering and Technology Board (2020). She received a Damehood in 2017 for services to Manufacturing and Engineering.
