Michael Lewis

NERC Council member

Michael Lewis is a member of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).

He joined Uniper SE as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in 2023, after holding the role of CEO at E.ON UK plc since 2017. He has worked in the energy industry for 30 years.

Michael started his career at Wessex Water plc, prior to joining PowerGen plc, which was subsequently acquired by E.ON SE. In 2007 he was appointed as Managing Director for Europe on the Board of E.ON Climate and Renewables GmbH, before becoming CEO responsible for global wind power development, construction and operations, where he led E.ONs international expansion into offshore wind. He was appointed as CEO of E.ON UK in 2017, where he has led the company’s transformation into a leading supplier of zero carbon energy solutions. He became CEO of the German listed Uniper SE, one of Europe’s leading power generation and gas supply companies, in June 2023. He was formerly a non-executive director of Equinor ASA.

Michael holds a BEng (Hons) Engineering Technology, MSc Pollution and Environmental Control, and MA Environmental Law. He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE). He is also a Chartered Water and Environment Manager (C.WEM) and a Member of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental management (MCIWEM).
