STFC Executive Director, Human Resources
Peter Thompson is Executive Director, Human Resources at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Lead HR Business Partner. He is also a member of the Executive Board.
Peter has a degree in Management Studies and Operational Research and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. He was previously employed by IDE Group Ltd, specialists in IT services and cloud platforms, where he lead their HR function to unify three acquisitions under one new corporate brand through integration and culture change initiatives. He put in place an innovative talent management strategy and addressed development needs and succession plans through specific talent programmes, an innovative learning cloud solution and mentoring. Prior to this, Peter was Head of HR within STFC (July 2013 to June 2016) responsible for developing STFC’s pay flexibility options, workforce planning and strategic resourcing solutions, talent programmes and enhancing employee engagement. Peter has previous experience in other IT services organisations as well as telecoms, publishing, construction and retail.
