Details

The technical guidance is for higher education provider (HEP) planning and finance specialists. It explains in detail how the figures in the 2024 to 2025 grant data tables have been derived.

The mapping of Research Excellence Framework REF 21 units of assessment (UOAs) to Research England cost centres and Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) cost centres has not changed since original publication in 2022.

The working example provides spreadsheet formulae for calculations used in mainstream QR. You can amend the data to see how changes affect the example allocations. This document has not changed since original publication in 2023.

The grant letter template was used as the basis for the grant letters sent to Research England funded HEPs in September 2024.
