This is the first of 3 short ‘insight briefs’ from the Prospering from the Energy Revolution challenge programme, on smart local energy systems.

This report focuses on questions of finance and investment.

Since 2018 the programme has funded a range of demonstrators, designs and research projects. The learnings from these projects help demonstrate how integrated place-based energy systems can contribute to the delivery of net zero, and some of the barriers in the way of unlocking this potential.

Further insight briefs will look at the findings of the projects in terms of policy and regulation, and skills and capabilities.
